This beautiful tree, whose trunk measures 21 feet in circumference, stands in Airlie Gardens on the bank of Bradley Creek in Wilmington, NC. I spent three days under the oak, studying the twisted trunk, thick bark, Spanish Moss, and sunlit patterns. This pen and ink drawing is a record of what my eye saw as I enjoyed the immense strength and ancient beauty of this majestic tree.
